{"id":18652,"date":"2023-11-10T12:58:39","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T12:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taipawb.org\/?post_type=news&amp;p=18652"},"modified":"2023-11-10T12:58:39","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T12:58:39","slug":"anti-racist-wales-social-housing-baseline-survey-key-findings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taipawb.org\/cy\/news\/2023\/anti-racist-wales-social-housing-baseline-survey-key-findings\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Racist Wales Social Housing Baseline Survey: Key Findings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, we have published the results of the social housing sector baseline survey which aimed to gather data in areas including staff diversity, the development of organisational anti-racism plans and take-up of training.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In June 2022 Welsh Government published its Anti-racist Wales Action Plan (ARWAP), setting out the actions it will take to make Wales an Anti-racist nation. The plan\u2019s vision is to make meaningful and measurable changes to the lives of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people by tackling racism.<\/p>\n<p>Actions related to housing include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Increasing staff and board diversity<br \/>\n\u2022 Anti-racism training<br \/>\n\u2022 Production of anti-racism delivery plans<br \/>\n\u2022 Improvements in data collection, analysis, usage and publication<br \/>\n\u2022 Improvements in how racism, including hate crime is reported and tackled<br \/>\n\u2022 Improvements to communication and engagement with ethnic minority people<br \/>\n\u2022 Meeting information, advice and advocacy needs<br \/>\n\u2022 Ensuring anti-racism is an integral part of transformation of homelessness services<br \/>\n\u2022 Other actions<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More information on actions specific to the housing sector can be found in Tai Pawb\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.taipawb.org\/anti-racism\/\">Anti-racism Toolkit<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The survey sought to gather data from registered social landlords, local authorities, and third sector housing support organisations to provide baseline view of selected areas within ARWAP where data was scarce, namely:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Diversity of staff<br \/>\n\u2022 The extent to which organisations have developed anti-racism delivery plans and<br \/>\nwhether these are published<br \/>\n\u2022 The extent to which staff and board have been trained on racism<br \/>\n\u2022 The ability of social housing providers to analyse housing conditions data according<br \/>\nto household characteristics (including race and ethnicity)<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the above the survey also sought to explore barriers to implementation of ARWAP experienced by the housing sector and views on further support needed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some of the key findings of the results of our baseline survey are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ethnic diversity <\/strong>of all housing sector staff was representative: <strong>6.4% <\/strong>of staff were from ethnic minority backgrounds compared to<strong> 6.3% <\/strong>of Welsh population (Census 2021). However, ethnic diversity amongst managerial staff was low at\u00a0<strong>0.8%, <\/strong>followed by senior management at<strong> 1.2%. <\/strong>Representation amongst non-managerial staff was the highest\u00a0at<strong> 5.9%.
