Evelyn here, Tai Pawb’s newest recruit as its Anti Racism Manager!

I’m a Black African woman from Nigeria living in Wales, where I have embraced community-building and committed myself to creating deep, lasting connections within the Welsh nation.

I’ll be leading Tai Pawb’s efforts to combat all forms of racial discrimination and promote equality in the Welsh housing sector. This also means I’ll be responsible for driving forward the “Deeds Not Words” pledge, which advocates for equitable housing rights for ethnic minorities and individuals facing racial discrimination. My goal is to ensure that housing in Wales is inclusive, accessible, and just for all communities.

Tai Pawb’s vision for fair and equitable housing aligns with the Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, a comprehensive initiative aimed at eradicating racism in all forms and ensuring that Wales becomes an anti-racist nation by 2030. The plan sets out a range of commitments, including addressing systemic inequalities in housing, education, and employment, and it calls for a collective responsibility to challenge racism and improve the lives of ethnic minority communities. My work at Tai Pawb will be crucial in advancing these goals by ensuring that housing policies and practices reflect this commitment to racial equity.

Prior to joining Tai Pawb, I served as the Campaign Manager for the Diverse5050 Campaign with Women’s Equality Network (WEN Wales), advocating for equal and diverse representation for women in Welsh politics for over three years with notable achievements in influencing Welsh electoral reforms, building campaign coalition of organisational partners and individual members across Wales and fostering community engagement.

My advocacy for racial and gender equality is rooted in my background as a Legal Practitioner in Nigeria, with over eight years of experience in civil and criminal litigation. I hold a Master’s degree in Development Studies focusing on Human Rights, Gender, and Conflict from the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University in the Netherlands, as well as an LLM in Legal Tech from Swansea University, UK.

“I am thrilled to be joining Tai Pawb at a pivotal moment in the sector for its anti-racism work, with the refresh of the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan and discussions around developing the next iteration of the Deeds Not Words pledge.

My aim is to break down systemic barriers that have long prevented ethnic minorities and marginalised communities from accessing fair housing – and, importantly, to work with partners and members to build a more equitable system.

I’m really looking forward to turbo-charging our collective efforts to ensuring we create a sector and a society that is truly anti-racist, where every voice is heard, and everyone has equal opportunities – as well as ensuring good quality, secure and affordable housing is not just a right, but a reality for all, regardless of race or background.”

My passion for justice, social change, and community-building drives my vision of Wales where housing is a right for all. I most humbly invite all housing partners, members, community groups and government authorities to work with me to build a more just and equitable future for all residents of Wales.
