{"id":22688,"date":"2016-10-28T15:14:54","date_gmt":"2016-10-28T14:14:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taipawb.org\/?post_type=blog&amp;p=3285"},"modified":"2016-10-28T15:14:54","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T14:14:54","slug":"why-i-joined-leaderlikeme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taipawb.org\/cy\/news\/2016\/why-i-joined-leaderlikeme\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I joined #LeaderLikeMe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3291\" src=\"http:\/\/www.taipawb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Jonathan-Conway-NCH-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"jonathan-conway-nch\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"lead\">I was sat in a meeting talking about the campaign, amongst other things and all of a sudden a question comes out of the blue\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Jon, when are you going to make your pledge?\u201d What do I say? I\u2019m not a manager. What can I do? Wouldn\u2019t it be a bit presumptuous? \u201cI\u2019ll have a think and get back to you\u201d was my non-committal reply.<\/p>\n<p>So I did think about it. I thought about all the reasons I wasn\u2019t a leader. Then I thought, why would they ask me? There must have been a reason\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Of course there was! Being a leader is not just about holding a position or managing staff. A job role doesn\u2019t make you a leader, an attitude does and clearly, my friends and colleagues could see that attitude in me. I started to think about it in a different way. Thinking of the projects I have run, with teams of colleagues from across our business looking to me for guidance. I thought about the residents I have mentored, the staff I have mentored the boys I coach in rugby and I thought\u2026 I am a leader. I have got something to give.<\/p>\n<p>I made my pledges the following day and I am really glad that I did. I am already working on giving someone a shadowing opportunity, and should be able to help a trainee to get much wider experience than she currently has. I can make a difference, and I can help increase diversity and therefore it is my obligation to give others access to the opportunities that I have had to develop.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I pledged and why I believe the #Leaderlikeme campaign is important.If you haven\u2019t come on board yet, please do. We all have something to give. You just need to have a think\u2026 and come up with something.<\/p>\n<p>I hope I will make a difference.
