Equality and Diversity Awareness for Board Members

This training will help board members gain an understanding of housing organisations’ legal obligations with specific focus on the role and duties of board members under the Equality Act 2010.

This training aims to equip board members with a clear understanding of the different ways in which discrimination can occur and an appreciation of the common barriers to equality for people with protected characteristics in housing. This is an interactive training session which aims to explore the Equality Act, housing associations’ obligations, and the role of board members and governance in scrutinising the organisation’s performance on equality.

Objectives - The learner will be able to:

Explain why equality in housing matters

Recognise their housing organisation’s legal obligations

Identify obligations of board members under the Equality Act 2010

Describe who is protected from discrimination and the different ways in which this discrimination can be experienced

Identify and understand the common barriers faced by people with protected characteristics.  Assess tools and good practice that can be used to overcome these barriers.

Evaluate the role of governance in scrutinising their organisation’s performance on equality.

Target audience

This course is aimed at housing association board members and staff involved in governance.
