Tai Pawb welcomes Homelessness and Social Allocations Bill

Tai Pawb welcomes the publication of yesterday’s Homelessness and Social Allocations Bill.

From the stories in the news this week (Article – Army Veteran Waits 13 Years for Social Home), it’s clear that if we want to end homelessness, we need a more flexible system that takes account of diverse needs, whatever they are. We hope this legislation can support this and stop the overrepresentation of homelessness amongst certain groups, including disabled people.

As an organisation, we were proud undertake research to support the development of this Bill, through amplifying the voices of people with protected characteristics experiences of homelessness. We particularly welcome the inclusion of a requirement for local authorities to maintain a Common Housing Register and an Accessible Housing Register for their local area. Guidance on what these should include can be found from our research in Gwent and we look forward to working with stakeholders to support the scrutiny and development phase of this legislation.
