Lets Talk about.... Trans Awareness & Inclusion

In recognition of Trans Awareness week (13 - 19 November), we're giving you the opportunity to come and join us for our Let's Talk About...Trans Awareness and Inclusion session

  • image-20220704174826-1.pngWhat is it and why do we need it?
  • Why does it matter?
  • Where do I start?

If you find yourself asking any of the questions above about Trans and nonbinary Inclusion then this session is for you.

Trans and nonbinary inclusion is the act of being aware and supportive of the transgender and nonbinary community within your workplace including colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.   This session supports organisations to raise awareness of some the barriers transgender and nonbinary people experience when accessing work, services and what the housing sector can do to support them.

This 60 minute session will cover:

  • Introduction to trans and nonbinary awareness

  • Pronouns and beyond – how to show and act on inclusion

  • Barriers to engaging with services and how to address them

  • What we can do to be truly inclusive, for example:

    • Inclusive language and communications

    • Challenging transphobia

    • Making hiring practices more inclusive

    • Building relationships with trans and nonbinary groups

    • Empowering staff to be confident when supporting trans and nonbinary people

    • 15 min Q&A

About the Facilitator: Rudy Harries

image%285%29.pngRudy is a disabled queer trans man from the South Wales Valleys. He started public speaking while experiencing homelessness, advocating for better provisions for LGBTQ people fleeing domestic violence. When the pandemic hit, Rudy turned his attention to co-founding an organisation called Trans Aid Cymru, hoping to ensure that the material needs of trans people in Wales were being met through the principles of mutual aid. What started out as a redistribution of funds through paypal turned into a thriving network of volunteers and struggling trans people working together to make sure that trans people are informed, fed and financially stable. Rudy now regularly works with Welsh Government on relevant campaigns, and advocates for liberation for marginalised people through the abolition and overhaul of oppressive systems
