October marks Black History Month and it is the perfect opportunity to educate your workforce and celebrate inclusion. We are delighted to bring to you a Black History expert speaker Sean Wharton, a former professional footballer and the first Black schoolboy to play for Wales. Sean will talk to you about his own unique experiences on the world, of racism and discrimination, and how we can celebrate and be a more inclusive society.
When is Black History Month 2022?
Black History Month is the annual celebration of racial equality, taking place from the 1st to the 31st of October 2022 in the UK. Black History Month emerged as part of the African Jubilee Year for Marcus Garvey Centenary celebrations in America.
What is the theme for Black History Month 2022?
In October 2022, the theme of Black History Month is ‘Black Health and Wellness’.
How is Black History Month celebrated?
In the workplace, Black History Month can be celebrated through meaningful action. Black History Month is a celebration of inclusion and an opportunity to educate, through workplace activities & events.
About our facilitator: Sean Wharton
Son of Windrush generation parents, Sean has been acknowledged for his life achievements and has been inducted into the Windrush exhibition that tours across Wales. He is a former Sunderland FC professional footballer and was the first Black schoolboy to play for Wales. Sean is a passionate advocate for social change and co-founded No Boundaries Training & Consultancy to help educate others by sharing his knowledge and experiences leading to a more inclusive society.
Sean is a highly engaging and experienced facilitator who has considerable experience and expertise of working in the educational and corporate sectors. He has worked with groups including school and college students, teachers and university staff, probation staff and solicitors. Sean is also Chair of the Football Association of Wales Equality Diversity and Integrity Steering Group and a local County Councillor in Torfaen.
