online event (zoom)image-20230417125248-1.png

free for members

To mark Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month (1 June to 30 June) we are hosting a brilliant event with even more brilliant guest speakers.

The census 2021 data showed that 100,981 people identified as ‘Roma’ (the first time this category had been included in a census), and 67,768 as ‘Gypsy or Irish Traveller’ (up from 58,000 people who identified as such in the 2011 Census).   The number is likely considerably more.

The Anti Racist Action Plan Wales sets out very specific actions for Gypsy, Roma and Travellers and housing organisations play a key role in this.

This event will raise look at the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller history and culture and raise awareness of the Welsh context of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.   It will look at the issues faced in relation to discrimination and disadvantage in accessing homes and the recent Senedd inquiry into the provision of sites, plus the specific areas of the anti-racist action plan which should address some of the systemic barriers for Gypsy, Roma and Travellers in delivering culturally appropriate accommodation.

There will also be a Q&A.

Who should attend?

Anyone! This session is to increase awareness and support people in understanding the role of the housing provider.

The speakers!
