ALL THINGS EQUAL
Widening Access to the PRS
Tuesday 25 June
10.00am - 12.00pm
Online
In the last 30 years, the private rented sector (PRS) has more than doubled in size. For some, it is no longer a flexible housing option but rather the only choice they have. The historical undersupply of social housing means that the PRS is increasingly being used as a longer-term housing option for large numbers of vulnerable tenants. Understanding how best to support these tenants is in the interests of landlords, tenants and local authorities to avoid problems.
‘Widening access to the PRS’ will offer an opportunity to examine practical examples and policy and reflect on meeting the needs of these vulnerable and diverse tenants.
We’ll hear from:
- Tai Pawb’s Anna Tuhey, our PRS Champions Network Manager, who will explore how landlords can work with tenants and other organisations to raise awareness of diversity and to build support
- Hannah McCartan on the role of letting agents in widening access to the PRS. As a landlord interested in equality and improving access for a diverse range of tenants, she will share her perspectives on how agents can get on board
- Howard Humphries, NACRO, outlining its housing services and how their leasing scheme has supported care leavers, veterans, single parents and many other people to find secure and suitable housing in the PRS
- Local authority TBC
Who should attend?
This session is for any staff member interested in equality, diversity and inclusion in housing and in particular, how we can better understand equalities in the private rented sector.
