Women and Problem Gambling Training

We’re working with our new member Gamcare to offer our other members the opportunity to access free training and support services around problem gambling and hidden harm for women.

Problem gambling is an issue that many of our members will have come across, affecting tenants, service users and colleagues alike. Covid-19 has exacerbated the issue as people are at home and gambling more frequently.  While men are more likely to be gamblers with some level of harm, the number of women gambling is rising and many women are also affected by the impacts of their family members’ gambling.  Despite this, gambling addiction services are often designed with male gamblers in mind.  Women are not coming forward for help and are more likely than men to cite practical barriers such as cost, time or location in relation to accessing treatment or support.

Gamcare has received funding from the Tampon Tax Fund to raise awareness about this issue for professionals working in housing, support, and other related areas.

Working in partnership with Tai Pawb, Gamcare is offering our members:

• How to refer to free counselling.

 

Participants in the training will also be able to access a national gambling helpline and treatment and counselling services through the project.
