Hosted by..... Professor Matthew Williams
Matthew is a Professor of Criminology at Cardiff University and is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts in hate crime and online harms. He draws on his own experience as a victim of online and offline hate, and his 20-year-long research programme into online harms, to advise TikTok, X, Instagram, Google, EE, British Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, Airbus, The Professional Footballers’ Association, the UK Home Office and the US Department of Justice. Matthew directs HateLab, a global hub for data and insight to monitor and counter online hate speech and crime, and he has conducted the largest dedicated study of hate victimisation in the UK. In 2023 he founded nisien.ai, where he acts as Chief Scientist responsible for embedding world-leading scientific evidence into effective training and technical interventions to combat online harms.
