Equality Impact Assessments in Governance & Scrutiny for Board Members

Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs or EIAs) help housing and support organisations ensure that the needs of protected groups are considered during the development and implementation of a new policy or service, or when a change is made to a current policy or service.   It also provides assurance to regulators that equality and diversity considerations are being considered and delivered, and people from all groups are actively engaged with.

For Equality Impact Assessments to be implemented effectively within organisations, all colleagues have to be clear about what they are doing and why.

This interactive and practical session supports Boards members in their critical governance role to scrutinise and challenge Equality Impact Assessments, taking into account any impact the decisions may have on equality and human rights issues.

Objectives – the learners will be able to:

🏠  Define what we mean by Equality Impact Assessments and their benefits
🏠  Understand regulatory requirements and CHC Code of Governance in the context of EDI
🏠  Be clear how Board members can ensure both compliance with the law and improved outcomes for customers, staff and stakeholders
🏠  Question the robustness of any EqIA and request that further information/investigation is sought or carried out if needed
🏠  Consider the current approach of the organisation’s Equality Impact Assessments and what steps need to be taken to move forward
