Equitable climate Crisis Response Workshop

Last week we held an Equitable climate Crisis Response Workshop with The Open University. This was the beginning of our research project together into the equitable response to climate change in housing in Wales.

Rob explains more:

“Here at Tai Pawb we focus on promoting equality in housing in Wales and tackling housing discrimination. The Housing sector in Wales faces an unprecedented challenge in the climate emergency. And lets be clear it is just that, an emergency.

The climate emergency, reaching net zero, decarbonising our homes and services, retrofitting our existing properties, bolstering communities in advance of a future in which we are sure to experience the negative effects of climate change.

Sadly these are all opportunities for folks to be left behind, to experience discrimination. Without an understanding of the equality impacts there really is the risk of designing services and climate change responses that unwittingly discriminate against folks.

More optimistically there is also great opportunity here to promote equality in Wales.

Transition to net zero CAN be delivered in a way that benefits greatest those worst off in our society. In fact its becoming clearer and clearer that this approach will be the most sustainable approach to solving to the wicked issue of climate change.

This is something very important to Tai Pawb and very important to the Open University and as such we have come together to understand this better. Yesterday was the beginning of our research project together into the equitable response to climate change in housing in Wales. A big thanks to all who contributed to will help us shape this work.

So please join us as we explore this further.”
