Course Synopsis:

This LGBTQ+ course raises awareness of the issues faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, asexual, pansexual, intersex, and people of other sexualities in housing and wider society both in the past and today.

By the end of the course, participants will feel confident in their knowledge of sexual orientation, gender identity and LGBTQ+ terminology so that no one is afraid of saying the wrong thing. The course will create greater awareness of the history of LGBTQ+ movement and legislation up to the present day and equip participants to recognise and challenge exclusion and discrimination.

It will further explore the culture of your own organisation, helping you identify practical steps to make it a friendly and welcoming place where everyone feels valued, included and can fulfil their potential.

 

Objectives – The Learners will be able to:

  • Provide an understanding of LGBTQ+ terminology
  • Allow participants to recognise anti LGBTQ+ prejudice both past and present and understand its effect on people
  • Allow participants to understand how the law protects people from discrimination
  • Allow participants to understand the culture of your organisation and consider how things can be improved for colleagues and customers
  • Allow participants to understand how equality, diversity and inclusion makes for better organisations
  • Allow participants to be inspired to take positive action and make a difference

About the Facilitator:

This course is currently delivered by our Associate, Helen Armstrong, executive coach, trainer, psychotherapist and with over 20 years experience of leadership roles in the Welsh housing sector

Target audience

This course is designed for all housing and support professionals at all levels who want to increase their understanding of LGBTQ+ rights and issues in the workplace and help develop inclusive services for their tenants/customers.

Duration

Half or full day, or bespoke depending on requirements.
