As I reflect on the experience of speaking at the Gwent BOOST launch, I feel compelled to share some insights on a topic close to my heart: the indispensable value of evaluators being part of a project right from its inception.

The Gwent BOOST launch was not just an event; it was a celebration of progress, learning, and collaborative effort. Witnessing the personal stories of women who had completed the  Learning to Advise with by St Giles was truly inspiring. This event underscored a vital principle in the realm of project evaluation – the immense benefits of being involved from the very beginning.

The Power of Early Engagement

Being an evaluator from the start of a project like Gwent BOOST provides a unique vantage point. It allows for a deeper understanding of the project’s objectives, the challenges it aims to address, and the context in which it operates. This early involvement is crucial for several reasons:

  1. Shaping the Project Vision: Being part of the initial discussions helps in aligning the evaluation framework with the project’s goals. It ensures that the evaluation is not just an afterthought but a driving force that shapes the project’s trajectory.
  2. Building Relationships: Early engagement facilitates the building of trust and rapport with all stakeholders. This is critical in fostering a collaborative environment where feedback is freely shared and valued.
  3. Tailoring the Evaluation Approach: Every project is unique, and being involved from the start allows evaluators to tailor their approach to suit the specific needs and context of the project. This bespoke approach is often more effective than a one-size-fits-all model.
  4. Anticipating Challenges: Early involvement provides insights into potential challenges and roadblocks, enabling the formulation of proactive strategies to address them.

Moving Forward with Gwent BOOST

As we progress into the next stage of Gwent BOOST, our involvement from the outset positions us well to contribute meaningfully to the project’s evolution. It allows us to not just monitor and assess but to be an active participant in steering the project towards success.

Conclusion

The role of an evaluator is not just to observe and report but to be an integral part of the project’s journey. The launch of Gwent BOOST has reinforced my belief in the value of early evaluator involvement. It’s not just about being part of a project; it’s about being part of its heartbeat, understanding its pulse, and helping it thrive. As we move forward, I am excited to continue working closely with all the partners, armed with the insights and relationships forged from day one.
