Day of Action – December 2022
On 6th December 2022 we held a social media day of action. Deeds not Words organisations shared some fantastic examples of actions and changes they made under the pledges. Check out some great practice shared by them below.
Since launching #DeedsNotWords in 2020, we’ve been working with our members to end race inequality in #housing in #Wales.
And though we host the pledge, we’ve got our own commitments. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve done in the last year: pic.twitter.com/nPYXHClLBT

The project offered opportunities for people aged over 25 that identify from an ethnically diverse background. 35 participants took part in the project with 21 securing employment at the end. CCHA recruited three participants to our #OneTeam. #Deedsnotwords

In September 21, we set up an Equality Action Group made up of staff from across the organisation, including our Chief Executive @HayleySelway. The group was tasked with helping to tackle the lack of diversity within CCHA. They developed a Statement of Intent and pledges.
— Cardiff Community Housing Association (@CCHACorporate) December 7, 2022
The pledges included adopting positive action in recruitment and unconscious bias training for all (scheduled for early 2023). This will allow CCHA to better serve our tenants and communities.

The Equality Action group recommended to Board that an additional days’ annual leave be awarded to staff. This is to enable everyone to celebrate their religious festival e.g., Eid, Diwali, Hanukkah. This was approved by our Board. #Deedsnotwords
— Cardiff Community Housing Association (@CCHACorporate) December 7, 2022
Our People Team created a project group with staff from across the organisation to work together to enhance our recruitment process. Using feedback from recently appointed staff members and applicants, as well as seeking advice from organisations such as @TaiPawb, @StonewallCymru

Thanks to the positive action taken in our recruitment, we’re proud to say that 15% of our current staff identify as being from an ethnically diverse background, compared with 6% in March 21. We still have a long way to go, but we’re heading in the right direction. #DeedsNotWords

When it comes to our Board, we’ve taken positive action in the last two rounds of board recruitment to encourage applications from underrepresented participants. Information on the ethnic diversity of the Board is collected on an annual basis and given to @WelshGovernment pic.twitter.com/gbOPLVSk1S
